Therapy to support you through life transitions in Westchester, NY

Do you need help with changes in your life?

Some new situations in life are more challenging than others, even when the change is positive. Finding ourselves in a new circumstance can not only feel overwhelming, but it can also call everything we think we know about ourselves into question, leaving us feeling untethered and alone.

Maybe you have tried everything that has worked in the past when confronting challenges, but you still feel at a loss about how to acclimate to your new circumstances. You don’t feel like your usual, effective self, instead you feel:

  • Bogged down and hopeless

  • Anxious and frozen

  • Ashamed and frustrated

You wish you could get the support you need from family or friends, but they don’t quite understand why you are having such a hard time and are tired of hearing about your struggles.

Therapy provides you with the understanding and support you need.

Therapy for life transitions can help you feel like yourself again.

How therapy works

Therapy is a space where you can speak freely about the challenges you are facing.

Much of the time, you take changes in your life in stride, but this time, the shift has hit you a little harder than in the past. Family and friends can be great resources, but sometimes it feels like everyone around you has life all figured out, and you wonder why things feel so difficult to you. I help you expand your perspective, and, together, we create the space you need to step back, breathe, and make a plan.

We live in a highly competitive culture, where it can feel like we are alone in our struggles. I hold space for you to speak whatever is on your mind, without the pressure we typically experience in a social setting. Life transitions are particularly challenging because there are many cultural assumptions for how we “should” feel or behave. My role is to help you step out of that trap, find clarity about what you need, and make a roadmap for how to get there.

We will seek to better understand and gain insight into what is troubling you, including how past experiences might be intensifying what you are going through right now. I am an empathetic listener, who is both routing for you and challenging you, so that you begin to cultivate empathy for yourself, as well as a broader perspective on your situation.

Therapy for life transitions can:

  • Reduce depression and anxiety

  • Help you feel more grounded and in control

  • Alleviate feelings of isolation and shame

  • Cultivate understanding of the ways in which your past experiences may be influencing your current situation

  • Provide you with skills and coping strategies to move forward with confidence
