How Brainspotting works

Brainspotting is a powerful tool for healing trauma. It connects with the deepest parts of the brain, where trauma is stored and gives us access to heal these wounds. Trauma is not stored in our “thinking brain,” so finding the words to work through trauma can be difficult. Brainspotting bypasses the frontal lobe, making it easier to work through and integrate traumatic experiences. Brainspotting also offers tools to regulate our nervous system and connect with inner resources.

We work together to locate specific points (spots) in your visual field that correspond with what you would like to work on. We stay with that point, with the help of a fixed object, such as a pointer, while your brain “works” to process trauma. We will also locate points that correspond to comfort and calm, creating space for a soothing experience. This can become an indispensable tool for self regulation.
